Western Cape Big Walk

October 6

Western Cape Big Walk

The Western Cape Big Walk is an annual event aimed at promoting active lifestyles and raising awareness around mental well-being.

Participants can choose between a 5km or 10km walk and enjoy a day of fun and fitness in Rondebosch as the Big Walk coincides with the Association for International Sport for All (TAFISA) World Walking Day Initiative.

The Tafisa World Walking Day is known for being the most accessible and inclusive 24-hour relay around the globe. It was launched in 1991 to raise awareness against physical inactivity.

Millions of participants have taken part in 160 countries.

‘Every morning I choose to be active and get outside for a walk or bicycle ride. Come and join me in your takkies for the 2024 Western Cape Big Walk,’ says Ricardo Mackenzie, provincial minister of cultural affairs and sport.

‘Every step together moves us towards a stronger community. We will not only walk our way to better health but to a better South Africa.’

Participants who submit their completed entry form are eligible for a lucky prize draw sponsored by Western Province Athletics. Entry is free.

  • Starting times: 8am (10km) | 5:15am (5km)
