The Proteas won by three wickets with five balls to spare in a rain-affected match, finishing first in their Super 8 group and advancing to the penultimate round of the T20 showpiece for the first time in ten years.
With a target of 136 runs to win, the Proteas lost openers Reeza Hendricks and Quinton de Kock in the first two overs of their chase.
Rain interrupted their innings two overs in, but after a little more than an hour, it stopped and the players returned with only three overs lost.
Set a reduced target of 123, nobody in the Proteas line-up really stood out, but they combined well with middle-order batter Tristan Stubbs (29 runs) top-scoring, and Marco Jansen (21 not out) managed to keep the tail wagging as they reached 124/7 in the final over of the game.
Earlier, after being sent in to bat, West Indies scored 135/8 in 20 overs.

While the rest of their batting line-up crumbled, opener Kyle Mayers and Roston Chase combined for an 81-run third-wicket stand to keep the home team in the game.
Mayers scored 35 runs and Chase hit 52 off 42 balls, but without the support of their other specialist batters, they failed to lay a solid foundation for their bowlers to work with.
Spinner Tabraiz Shamsi took 3/27 to lead the Proteas attack, while Aiden Markram, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, and Kagiso Rabada each took one wicket, working well together to limit their opponents.
South Africa will face either Australia or Afghanistan in the first T20 World Cup semifinal in Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday.
Their opponents for the next round will be decided by Tuesday morning.
