The boring beige bathroom is dead. We buried it and erected a tombstone that reads: ‘Here lies Beige, he never offended anyone’.
Let’s face it, decor trends come and go and there’s nothing new under the sun. Who can forget the rise and fall of the 1970’s avocado green bathtub? Now those had serious vibe! We’re not advocating for the return of the avo tub, but the hippies were on to something.
Green is a feeling. It can say ‘tropical oasis’, ‘zen-like retreat’, ‘forest bath’ or ‘bed of moss’. Green is the stuff of bathroom dreams and green tiles provide practical and versatile material to realise those dreams.
Modern bathrooms are being born again with tile work in shades of mint, emerald, olive, chartreuse, lime and sage. It’s no wonder that green is a modern hero. It’s a shade synonymous with rejuvenation and revitalisation. If the bathroom is a space to retreat to when you’re tired and dirty, 2024 is the year we need to emerge refreshed and restored.
Let’s dive into the Stiles Green Tile Guide:
A mint moment
The Alga Liso Matt tile is a ‘perfectly pastel’ subway tile. Lay it in a half brick stack from floor to ceiling in showers and wet areas for a totally fresh look. It’s got the minty energy of a brand-new tube of toothpaste and it pairs effortlessly with white sanitary ware, marble countertops and pale wood.
Stay with the matt theme and incorporate matt black taps and wall-mounted mixers, such as the Meir Round Curved Matt Black Basin Mixer.

Curve appeal
Rounded tiles have the effect of softening all the edges in a room. Interior designers often refer to the ‘shoulder-dropping’ or stress-relieving effect of rounded edges. Organic shapes, curved lines and arches can be layered around the room in furniture, taps, mirrors and, of course, tiles.
The Materika Rounded Tile comes in five glossy shades, but we love the green. It is a deep, moss-like colour. Lay these vertically for a backsplash with panache!

Stripes to the ceiling
Vertical stripes in contrasting colours are popping up everywhere, from garden steps to kitchen backsplashes and the bathroom is no exception. Far from being a new trend, stripes have been striping since the Moors invaded Spain in 700AD. Stiles highly recommends combining green and white subway tiles for a floor-to-ceiling summery feel.
Use the Home Brick collection where the glossy Forest Green subway tile can be combined with the Milk White shade. Aside from making the room feel taller, these stripes are trendier than an olive oil ice cream on the French Riviera.

Touchable tiles
The use of relief tiles in bathroom design is a growing trend that adds a third dimension to walls. Relief tiles encourage touch and the best have undulating surfaces that feel similar.
New to Stiles, the Matiz SGN Sea Green Lux tile is a lollipop lime colour. These tiles have a fluted surface structure like the ridges left on the sand when the tide retreats.

Moody greens
Vibrant and verdant forest greens are perfect for high-impact bathrooms. The deeper shades add drama and sophistication. Glossy green tiles such as the Romo Botella reflect light, creating a glamorous and luxurious aesthetic. Bottle green in colour, this subway tile has slightly bevelled edges which enhances their visual interest.
Pair these with brushed bronze taps such as the Hansgrohe Talis E Brushed Bronze Basin Mixer.
