A 17-year-old girl from Delft was killed on Sunday morning after gunmen opened fire on Hartenberg Street.
Reggie Maart, chairperson of the Delft community policing forum (CPF), says the area has been plagued by ongoing gang violence.

‘We condemn this killing of the young girl. As the CPF, together with our partners, we have regular patrols, [and] imbizos in the hotspots to address crime. The SAPS also provides more outside forces to assist.’
He told News24 that because the area was so big, gang violence would just spread to other areas with authorities only concentrated on one.
The CPF, neighbourhood watches and community members patrolled parts of Delft before the teen’s death.
‘In Delft, there are about 20 different gangs. Last night’s patrolling was done with our new station commander who is currently in charge.’
According to police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk, she was declared dead on the scene by medical personnel.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
Just a few days before, a 29-year-old woman was caught in gang crossfire while walking to a doctor’s appointment in Manenberg.
No arrests have been made for either case.
