A 20-year-old Chinese national has been caught dealing in R24 million worth of illegal alcohol in Cape Town.
Sergeant Wesley Twigg says the Provincial Counterfeit Illicit and Contraband Goods Task Team were conducting a counterfeit operation in Kleinvlei on Wednesday when they made the discovery.

‘Multidisciplinary efforts to stop the illegal trading of counterfeit goods which impact on the economy of South Africa yielded success when police members executed counterfeit operations in Eersteriver,’ he says.
‘The members ensued with a search of a liquor outlet on the corner of Plain and Ryneveld Streets, Eersteriver where they confiscated liquor which did not meet the requirements for sale purposes.’

The street value of the liquor is estimated at R24 million.

The 20-year-old Chinese national was arrested for dealing in counterfeit, illicit and illegal goods and is due to make an appearance in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court once charged.
