As per the latest debriefing with councillors, here are the following location updates:
Corner of George Road and Old Strandfontein Road, 915mm
The valve has been removed and the new valve is being assembled on site whilst the old pipe is being inspected. A slight leak from the bulk network required additional scouring, which led to a delay early in the day.
Corner of Carrol and Plantation Road, 915mm
The valve has been replaced and bolts are being tightened.
Corner of Blackbird and Acacia, 500mm
The valve is currently being removed while the new valve is being assembled on the side of the valve chamber.
‘Our teams will be working through the night. Should all efforts go according to plan, all valves will be replaced through the course of the night and early morning,’ Badroodien says.
He adds that each construction site is being supported by a safety and security deployment. ‘Our teams will be well guarded as they undertake this work with the view to complete the operation as quickly as possible.’
He also cautions residents to only take what they need at the tanker sites. ‘At one of the tanker sites a resident had arrived to fill two 1000 litre containers. This is not acceptable as the water resource must be shared by all.’
‘Only take what you need and allow other residents to fill their buckets or containers. Officials will not prevent you from accessing the water but be fair to everyone.’
