Braai season has officially kicked off, and with the annual Capegate Braai Challenge just days away, the anticipation is building to see who will take home the prizes worth over R30 000.
The top 10 contestants have been announced, and they are gearing up to compete for glory at this exciting event, Cape {town} Etc reports.

The challenge will take place on Saturday, 14 September 2024, starting at 10am when the fires will be lit. The winning braai dish is expected to be chosen by 4pm. Spectators are welcome to attend, and there is even a chance to be selected as a wild-card taster.
The 10 finalists competing for the title are: Albert van Dyk, Andre Theron, Bradley Broadway, Deon Thys, Kathryn Line, Lindley Hendricks, Natascha Jones, Ronald Barnard, Ronelle De Jager and Shaun van Biljon.
Contestants will first compete by preparing the best boerewors roll, with only the top five advancing to the next round, where their steak-braaing skills will be tested. The top three will then cook their entry dish, and one will emerge as the 2024 Capegate Braai Challenge champion.

‘We’ve had more entries than ever this year and the creativity of some of the recipes really reflects how innovative and diverse we are as a braai nation,’ said Capegate’s marketing manager, Zoë Ganz.
‘After a long and very cold winter, it’s going to be good to get around the fires on Saturday for what we anticipate will be a hot competition, and I know I speak for everyone at the centre, we can’t wait.’
The judges’ attention was captured by some standout recipes, including smoked chicken thighs, Greek pork neck steak, snoek, apricot harissa marinated Karoo lamb leg chops, a ‘plankie’, and a grilled steak roulade burger filled with basil mozzarella, wrapped in streaky bacon, and topped with mac & cheese, peri mayo sauce, and capsicum garnish.
This year’s judging panel includes Clement Pedro, a chef presenter on the Expresso Show and Woolworths Taste magazine contributor, who will be supported by Wesley Wagner, last year’s runner-up.
