The City’s Fire and Rescue Service received an emergency call at 11:35am about a building on fire in Sanderling Road, Muizenberg.
According to fire service spokesperson Jermaine Carelse, ‘It appears that the fire was caused by a gas leak in the restaurant.’
Crews from the Lakeside, Mitchells Plain, and Fish Hoek fire stations responded to the scene, where they found the entire restaurant engulfed in flames.
The injured woman, who suffered burn wounds, was treated on-site before being taken to a nearby medical facility.
‘By 12:45pm, fire crews managed to contain and extinguish the blaze, which destroyed the premises, with the adjacent units also affected. The liquor store [next door] was only smoke-filled, and the firefighters cleared the area,’ Carelse added.
