What exactly does Cat of the Year entail, you may be wondering?
The event, a national cat show, encompasses a showcasing of 20 different cat breeds.
It features the coming together of six judges to decide the supreme feline in various categories, such as Cat of the Year, Neuter of the Year, Kitten of the Year and Household Pet of the Year.
In the midst of winter, ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ couldn’t be a more fitting theme.
The event is set to be hosted by the main sponsor, Royal Canin, alongside the Western Province Cat Club.
This year, the Urban Caracal Project will form part of the event.
Dr Gabi Leighton, a post-doctoral researcher with the project, will conduct a presentation intended to shed light on Cape Town’s shy but charismatic cat, the caracal.
The prestigious evening will come to a close with a glamorous 5-star gala diner at the V&A Waterfront’s Radisson Blu Hotel, where the event will take place.
The hotel will also be offering a COTY special. Standard rooms will be priced at R2500 per night for 2 people with no pets, including breakfast.
Pet-friendly accommodation is available at its sister hotel, The Radisson Red.
International judges for the competition include Jane Allen and Phillipa Holmes, hailing from the UK.
Coming from across the country, Lynel Du Toit, Elizabeth Van Renen, Ngaio Crawley and Thea Lamprecht are set as the South African judges.
