He declared on social media platform X that his term would be considered a failure if he did not succeed in hosting this major sporting event.
As per a report in IOL last June, rumours circulated that the Kyalami racetrack in Johannesburg might host a Formula One event.

McKenzie recently shared on X that he has already arranged meetings to discuss bringing F1 to South Africa.
‘I have set up meetings with relevant people already, my term will be a failure if I don’t bring one of the biggest sporting tourist events to South Africa, which is F1. Our first meeting is end of August in Monaco,’ he stated.
The new minister’s popularity has risen due to the promises he has made to the public, including this ambitious plan to revive Formula One in South Africa.
