‘It appears that they were part of a local soccer team playing at the beach when they reportedly entered the surf and were swept out to sea by rip currents,’ said Lambinon.
The search effort included NSRI teams from Melkbosstrand, Table Bay and Bakoven, along with Milnerton Surf lifeguards and the Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service. Together, they launched five rescue crafts.
‘The EMS rescue helicopter and a metro rescue squad drone team joined in the extensive air, sea, and shoreline search. NSRI rescue swimmers, lifeguards, and Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service rescue divers conducted sweeping line search efforts,’ Lambinon detailed.
Despite the extensive search, the two young men remain missing.
Police divers will continue the search.
‘Thoughts are with the family of the missing young men in this difficult time,’ Lambinon added.
