In the spirit of Mandela Day, and the ethos of paying it forward, the Lay-by Buddy initiative has offered a heartwarming and practical solution to many South African families that face the daunting challenge of staying warm in the winter amid increasing financial pressures.

With donations starting as low as R2, the initiative ensures that families can ‘receive essential winter items sooner’ to bring warmth and comfort during the cold months.
Individuals who wish to donate can contribute any amount towards settling lay-by accounts at any PEP store or online.
These accounts belong to families who have ‘put aside essential winter items’, such as clothing and blankets, but are struggling to complete their payments, and by paying off these accounts, donors can ensure that these families can access their much-needed items without delay.
The Lay-by Buddy Initiative has amassed over R1.1 million from over 3 400 generous individuals who contributed to the initiative.
PEP has also contributed to the initiative with a contribution of R1.5 million, which resulted in ‘immense relief’ for more than 46 200 customers since its inception in 2020.
