Update:
Police in Cape Town have arrested individuals linked to recent smash-and-grab incidents on Malibongwe Drive and Potsdam Road near Dunoon.
This follows the release of drone footage on 17 July, which showed a suspect in a bright orange shirt breaking car windows on Malibongwe Drive and the N7.
Private drone operator AJ, who submitted the footage, is confident it will aid in identifying and prosecuting the suspects.
He noted, ‘I’m very excited about the breakthrough that SAPS has put so much effort into, and so quickly,’ and added that SAPS has the technology to enhance the footage if necessary.
AJ, who is part of a broader security team monitoring the area, suspects that those arrested are part of a larger network of criminals who are often cycled in and out of prison. He remarked, ‘Since this incident, it’s been very very quiet and I’m very happy about that.’
A shocking smash-and-grab incident was captured by a drone on the N7 near Malibongwe, revealing a man in a red jacket smashing three car windows in quick succession.

The video, which has since gone viral, documents the entire event unfolding in under five minutes.
The footage shows the man in a red jacket approaching cars in traffic and then methodically breaking their windows with what appears to be a blunt object.
Within moments, he manages to smash three car windows, seemingly undeterred by the passing traffic.
Adding to the scene, another man wearing a brown jacket is seen in the video. Initially, he hesitates, but then he too proceeds to smash a car window but appears to get away with nothing.
The rapid succession of these acts has raised concerns among local residents and commuters about the increasing boldness of vandals and the safety of their vehicles.
The incident, captured in real-time, highlights the need for enhanced security measures and vigilance in the area.
