A joint sitting of the newly established two Houses of Parliament will be held on Thursday, 18 July, to mark the Opening of Parliament Address (OPA) for the seventh administration.

Both houses – the National Assembly and National Council of Provinces – will attend the event to signify the start of the new five-year parliamentary cycle.

President Cyril Ramaphosa will outline the key priorities and policies of the seventh administration, which comprises several political parties that formed a Government of National Unity following the 2024 elections.
The opening of Parliament also coincides with the United Nations-declared Nelson Mandela International Day, which calls on people to help change the world for the better.
South Africans can tune into their favourite television or radio station or follow government and parliament social media accounts to stay up to date with the proceedings.
‘The address is a rallying point for our entire nation to work together and build on the successes of previous administrations,’ the South African Government stated on its website. ‘It draws us in a common front to find ways to address the challenges we face and improve the lives of people.’
