Heavy rainfall boosted the City of Cape Town’s dam levels by 20% in just one week.
As of 15 July, the total City storage stood at 93.9%, a sharp increase from the previous 74.1%. The latest data indicates an overall 19.80% increase.

While Voëlvlei remains the lowest at 74.8%, the dam’s volume showed a significant increase from the previous 62.1%.

Three of the City’s major dams are more than 100% full, namely the Berg River, Steenbras Lower and Steenbras Upper at 103%, 103.4% and 100.4% respectively.
Minor dams saw a slight increase; however, there is currently no data for the Alexandra, De Villiers and Hely-Hutchinson dams yet. Most notably, Lewis Gay in Simon’s Town saw a considerable increase from 78% to 100.9%.
The City also provided the latest rainfall statistics for the following areas:
Cape Town’s water quality compliance remains high at 99.26%, surpassing its target of 98.5%.
The City continues to monitor water dam levels and advises residents that it is important to continue to use water wisely.
