A man’s body washed up on the rocks at the promenade in Mouille Point, Cape Town, on Sunday morning. The discovery was made by a member of the public.

A crowd soon gathered to see what was going on, with fire and rescue services and police called to the scene. Those who saw the body reported seeing a gash to the head.

An officer at the scene, who was not authorised to speak to the media, said the man appeared young and was wearing only boardshorts.
Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said they had registered an inquest and had not yet identified the man.
Van Wyk said the body washed up on the rocks near the putt-putt course around 11:30am.
‘[The] SAPS Diving Unit retrieved the body from the sea. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.’
