The Western Cape Department of Infrastructure has provided the following update:
- The MR310 that links Citrusdal to the N7 is closed until further notice after a section of the road was washed away, due to the river breaking its banks. It will only be possible to rebuild this road once water levels have subsided. Road users are advised that the wash-away is in a different place than the wash-away that took place in the floods of June 2023.
- Citrusdal-N7 via MR539 – the low water bridge on this route is underwater and is closed until further notice.
- Citrusdal-N7 via Clanwilliam (MR539 to DR2183 and the N7 via Clanwilliam – the road has been washed away and can therefore not be used until further notice.
- Citrusdal-Ceres via MR310 – this road is closed at the Elandskloof low-water bridge until further notice.

Access to Citrusdal has once again been completely severed due to severe weather conditions, one year after flooding washed away an access road to the town located about 160 kilometres north of Cape Town.

Due to severe weather conditions causing flooding on the rail tracks at Firgrove, the train service between Strand and Eerste River has been temporarily suspended. Train services will now operate from Eerste River station only. Commuters are advised to arrange alternative transportation between Strand and Eerste River.
Napoleon Avenue is closed between Duynefontein and Horn Road due to flooding.
Baden Powell Drive is experiencing flooding from Stellenbosch to Sunrise Circle.
The traffic lights at the intersection of Annandale Road are faulty, leaving the intersection without functioning lights. Motorists are urged to approach with caution and treat it as a four-way stop.
Muddy conditions at the S-bend before the landfill site in the direction of Muizenberg require drivers to approach with caution. There is also water and mud on the roadway after the landfill site, making the road slippery. Drivers are advised to switch on headlights, reduce speed, avoid overtaking, and allow extra travel time.
A sinkhole has resulted in the closure of the left lane from Mike Pienaar Boulevard into Tienie Meyer Bypass in Bellville. Motorists should expect delays in this area.
Update: 11 July, 8pm
While unverified, there are reports that state that a bridge that leads to Robertson in the area of the Overhex-roundabout has collapsed.
The N1, at De Wet between Worcester and De Doorns, is completely flooded.
Another unconfirmed report states that Slanghoek’s roads are completely flooded, with the paved roads being damaged.
Power outages in the area can also be expected, as there have been sightings of electric wires malfunctioning at De Wet Cellar.
Reports of flooding in the neighbourhoods of Strand North have also been recorded.
Warnings have been issued along the stretch between Simon’s Town and Miller’s Point, as mudslides have been sighted in the area.
Along the deep south coast between Miller’s Point and Smitswinkelsbaai, more mudslides have been reported.
At Baden Powell Drive, excavators have been utilised to clear the road after mudslides blocked the road.
Del La Rey Road in Tygerberg is completely flooded, while certain parts of Paarl are also reportedly flooded.
In Worcester, the Drie Bruggies River crossing bridge behind Johnson Park has been closed. Slabs against the railing have reportedly been washed away.
Reports of GrandWest Casino also experiencing flooding have also been circulating.
Baden Powell Drive remains closed from Muizenberg, Capricorn Beach, to Strandfontein.
Further reports of flooding include the R300 North at N2 Inbound, where both outbound ramps have been obstructed. The outbound on Sable Service Road before Sable, where all lanes are open with no delays.
Table Mountain National Park management has advised park users that all trails in the Newlands Forest have been temporarily closed due to unsafe trail conditions.
As a result of damage to infrastructure, the tented camps of Overseers Cottage, Olifantsbos, Smitswinkel and Slangkop have been closed until further notice.
Reports have streamed in about trees and branches falling down as well as rock falls and muddy water flowing over roadways at the following locations:
- Rhodes Drive (between Cecilia Forest and Constantia)
- Mudslide Silvermine Gate 1Cape Point overnight hiking trail (temporarily closed)
- Uprooted trees in Rhodes Memorial
- Rhodes Drive (Newlands), closed just before the Newlands traffic lights
- Newlands Avenue
- The main road between Cape Point and Simonstown
- Plateau Road leading to Cape Point
- Olifantsbos Road (Cape of Good Hope)
- Tokai Circle (Tree down)
SANParks will update this list as more information comes to light.
Table Mountain National Park management would like to request park users to exercise caution during this time or avoid the mountain and wait for a drier period to access mountain hiking as well as horse and bike trails.

Flooding has also been reported in Vasco Boulevard, Goodwood, as well as Beach Road in Gordons Bay.
Flooding has been seen in Hindle Road at the ramp to the R300 northbound.
Stellenbosch Arterial road and Range road in Wimbledon Estate is experiencing flooding and there are road closures in those areas.
There are also road closures in Koeberg road between Boundary road and Freedom Way.
Elsies River Day Hospital is closed as they are experiencing leaking due to the heavy rainfall through the night.
Severe weather, characterised by strong winds and heavy rain, has caused widespread damage across various parts of the Western Cape over the course of Wednesday night heading into Thursday morning.

Disaster management teams are currently on the scene in multiple areas, working to assess and address the damage.
Wynberg was hit particularly hard, with numerous homes losing their roofs due to the strong winds. Electricity outages have been reported on several roads, including Kent, Bute, Abbey, Eden and South Road.

The extent of the damage has left many residents in need of immediate assistance.
Motorists across the city are facing hazardous conditions. Tree branches are scattered on the road near Dick Burton and Rosmead Avenue, just before the electricity department towards Wetton Road.
Strong winds have also led to a tree blocking the M5 at Parkwood and another on 5th Avenue in Grassy Park near Grassdale High School.
Additionally, the M5 is blocked from Parkwood entrance at the Hyde Road robots to Dick Burton robots due to multiple fallen trees.
Several areas have reported severe flooding:
- A.Z. Berman Drive, Mitchells Plain at Promenade: Alternative routes are recommended.
- Spine Road and intersections at Katdoring, AZ Berman, and Swartklip are heavily flooded, with cars stuck in these areas.
- Under Ottery Bridge towards M5 and parts of Rosmead Avenue are heavily flooded, causing significant traffic disruptions.
- M3 inbound inner lane is flooded near Paradise Road Shell, posing a risk to drivers.
- Varkensvlei area and the approach to Ottery robots from Varkensvlei are severely flooded, leading to road closures.
- Flooding has also been reported on the N1 just past Canal Walk, with the right-hand lane heading out of Cape Town submerged.
In Hout Bay, a large tree has fallen, blocking traffic past the Nek before the estate. Residents are advised to proceed with caution.
Oudeburg Bridge in Grabouw’s CBD is flooded on both sides, and drivers are urged to approach with caution.
Clarence Drive has experienced heavy rockfalls.
Industrial Road in Grabouw and Worcester Road’s bridge at Timbers are both flooded, requiring alternative routes.
Worcester has been severely impacted, with power outages reported in several areas, including Victoria Park, Rouxpark, Jakaranda Avenue, Langerug, Meiringspark, Hex Park, and Touws River.
Fallen trees and power lines are causing significant disruptions. In Jakaranda Avenue, a power line has fallen across the road and over a fence, making it difficult to see due to the darkness caused by the power outage.
A mudslide has been reported near the top of the Glencairn Expressway, causing a partial obstruction.
Residents in affected areas are advised to stay indoors if possible, avoid driving through flooded areas, and report any emergencies to the relevant authorities. The disaster management teams are working tirelessly to restore normalcy and provide aid to those in need.
