The SPCA has been inundated with calls regarding animals left without shelter amid flooding in informal farming areas.
The expectation is for things to get worse before they get better, as further rainfall this week may lead to large-scale flooding and possible mudslides.

The SPCA is expecting the hazardous conditions to displace pets and farm animals who will be in desperate need of rescue and warmth.
Inspectors are stated to be working closely with the City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre and they have deployed teams to all areas currently in crisis.
Team leaders are en route to Macassar with trailers to rescue horses and cattle while the area is still easily accessible.
Animals in chains and those located in areas where flooding is imminent are of the utmost importance.
The SPCA, as a result, is urgently seeking donations in the form of oat hay for horses, horse blankets, and blankets and food for pets.
Certain PetShop Science stores will serve as collection and drop-off points for donations, namely, FairBridge Mall, Durbanville, N1 City, Old Paarl (by the PnP Hyper), Plumstead, Protea Heights (Boulevard Square), Rondebosch, Tokai (Blue Route Mall) and Checkers Bayside Mall.
To report animals in distress, call 021 700 41 58/9.
