The Haven Night Shelter has introduced the ‘Buy a Bed’ campaign.
The initiative allows the public to buy a homeless person a bed in their shelter for 5 nights for the price of R75.

The campaign has been established to help homeless people who have been left exposed to the severe weather conditions and to make shelters more accessible.
To promote the important cause, the shelter began this campaign, which essentially offers a homeless person an escape from the winter weather.
The price of a bed for five nights is equivalent to two flat whites.
Most homeless people know that they have to pay shelter fees, which begin at R15 per night. The reason for this charge is to force homeless adults to take responsibility for themselves.
The fees charged, however, result in many homeless people not coming to the shelter.
The ‘Buy a Bed’ campaign encourages the community to cover shelter fees for the first five nights and to aid the organisation in remaining sustainable.
The shelter claims to have around 2 500 new clients per year, so any help is greatly appreciated.
