There will be new episodes released every Thursday, where viewers will be afforded full access to drag culture and the most prominent drag venues in the city.
It’s an eye-opening and jaw-dropping introduction to a world of extreme transformations, unforgettable fashion, warring houses, opposing queen mothers, wig-gates and sisterhood.
The show will be presented in Gayle – an English and Afrikaans slang language popularised by the drag culture of the Cape Coloured community in the 1950s. Gayle uses alliterative formulations of women’s names, such as Beulah, which means ‘beauty’. But subtitles will be available so everyone can follow the drama.
The star line-up includes multi-award winner Emogan Moore, Miss Sovereign Western Cape winner Ina Propriette, Miss Cape Town Pride winner Kat Gilardi, Miss Gay Western Cape winner Maxine Wilde, SA’s Got Talent runner-up Manila von Teez and rival house mothers BB Vahlour and Madisson Scarr.
Participants in the show have had a lot to say about what drag means to them.
‘Drag is uncomfortable and weird, it is not just your identity or how you express yourself.’
‘To me, drag allows me to be creative.’
‘Drag is whatever you want it to be.’
‘You don’t know half the challenges of a drag queen.’
