A 38-year-old Green Point woman was mugged and robbed while running on the Promenade early Saturday morning.
The attack occurred between 6:30am and 7am, when it was still dark. The woman had been running by herself.

Posting on Facebook, The Atlantic Seaboard Community Forum (ASCF) group administrator stated that a group of runners came across the woman on the Promenade at Rocklands with blood on her face and hands.
‘The runners had passed a suspicious looking man who was leaning against the sea wall,’ posted Flentov. ‘One of the runners said she looked at the man and greeted him, to let him know that she was aware of his presence. After they had run past him she looked around to make sure that he wasn’t following them.’
After a few hundred metres, the group turned around and began running the opposite direction.
‘When they got to where the suspicious looking man had been, they found the victim of the mugging.’

‘The man had attacked her and had stolen the moonbag in which she’d put her phone and keys.’
‘The attacker had stabbed her on the check, close to her mouth – fortunately it was a superficial wound that didn’t need stiches. It is not clear whether the blood on her hands was from the cut on her cheek, which bled profusely, or from additional cuts sustained when she fought off her attacker.’
Flentov stated that the incident highlighted the dangers of running after dark, particularly when running alone.
‘There were a number of runners out at the time of the attack, and this may have given the victim a false sense of security. And while there were other individuals out running on the Promenade, they were dispersed enough that someone running by themself is still an easy target.’
‘If you are running and see another person running by themself invite them to run with you. You may have to adjust your pace, but that is a small price to pay for keeping someone safe.’
