Three workers from the Biodiversity Social Project were charged by a hippo while clearing alien plants along the Sabie River, near the national park’s Paul Kruger Gate, writes The South African.

According to the article, a post was made to the SANParks – Kruger National Park Facebook group on Monday, detailing the incident.
The report states that the three workers were working in thick bush nearby the riverbank when the hippo charged at them.
Two-armed field guards who accompanied the group fired shots at the hippo and it fled back to the river.
The injured were then rushed to a Skukuza doctor, where they were stabilised before being transferred to a nearby hospital for further treatment and observation.
The unnamed workers were left with ‘serious but not life-threatening’ injuries.
