As coalition talks continue in the realm of politics following the outcome of the 2024 general election, South African citizens wait on tenterhooks for any hints, signs or indications of the formation of the country’s new government.

With comments from political analysts, media outlet reports and general speculations from the public all trying to figure out who the ANC will confirm it’s forming a coalition government with, we as citizens are left feeling stressed, coming up with all kinds of possible outcomes – much like that feeling after someone says ‘we need to talk…later’.
Or, at least, that’s how South African comedian Schalk Bezuidenhout feels. Taking to social media, he amusingly expresses that he’s not coping with just how long these coalition talks are taking.
Offering the same analogy, Bezuidenhout explains that if his wife sends him a ‘we need to talk’ message, he’s instantly on the phone to discuss the matter: ‘Hi, talk. Say what you want to say’.
And if his wife says they can talk later, this is his response: ‘Why? We’ve got the miracle of technology, where we can talk even though maybe I’m kilometres away, we can talk. Why not just talk?’
Suffice it to say, waiting is not his strong suit.
Continuing the analogy, he adds that if no discussion takes place immediately, his mind ‘goes crazy’ for the rest of the day, prepping for the worst possible outcomes.
