Lwandle police spokesperson Sergeant Mthokozisi Gama reported that officers are still searching for the suspects involved in the fatal shooting of two men on Saturday morning at Enkanini.
‘It is alleged that a group of men were sitting at the shebeen when six unknown males entered and fired multiple shots, injuring them. The suspects then fled the scene,’ Gama said.
Gama stated that four men were injured and taken to the nearest hospital, where one died upon arrival.
‘Later, officers discovered another man had been shot and killed in the same incident,’ said Gama, adding that several cartridges and rounds of ammunition were found at the scene.
A community leader, speaking anonymously due to fear of reprisal, said the area has a high crime rate.
‘People are killed every weekend. We are not safe here. The criminals act freely while officers, despite their efforts, are limited by their resources,’ he said.
The leader urged the community to cooperate with the police to combat crime.
‘Officers alone cannot fight crime. We need to work together as a community. If the community doesn’t trust the officers, they can report wrongdoing to the community policing forum, which can then inform the officers,’ he stated.
