This evidence includes secret recordings made by the star witness, Mr X, during his time as Wainstein’s bodyguard.
Mr X, who is currently in witness protection, is providing testimony about his role as Wainstein’s trusted bodyguard and his involvement in the rivalry over nightclub security contracts in Cape Town. Additionally, he disclosed that he was an informer for crime intelligence, despite being implicated in planning Wainstein’s murder.
The State must establish the integrity of the evidence before playing the recordings. The trial is expected to continue with the digital forensic investigator’s testimony and Mr X’s return to provide context for the retrieved information.
Meanwhile, the trial of Nafiz Modack and others on the same floor is also anticipated to resume.
