Another video of a ‘Don’t Panic’ sign has surfaced on social media, sparking mixed reactions from South Africans.
This time, Lasizwe Dambuza, South African media personality, TV host, YouTuber and social media maverick (@lasizwe) posted a video of a sign unfolding on the Nelson Mandela Bridge in Johannesburg.

While many viewers determined that the signs might obviously be CGI or AI-generated, several others commented that the signs’ meanings have the opposite effect:
- ‘I would make a u-turn immediately!😭’
- ‘Telling me to not panic is actually telling me to panic 😭😭😭’
- ‘Don’t panic’ me panicking ngyowela ngale kwe bridge because why😂😭’
- ‘That’s ground for panicking 😭’
However, the mystery of the ‘Don’t Panic’ signs remains unsolved at this time.

The bold white letters, visible from various points across the city, have ignited a frenzy of speculation, concern and humour on social media.

The sign has left locals scratching their heads and furiously typing on their keyboards. Instagram and Facebook are abuzz with theories ranging from aliens to an elaborate political campaign.

As of yet, no individual or organisation has come forward to claim responsibility for the cryptic message.
City officials have yet to release an official statement.
As the city holds its breath for answers, we can only hope they come soon.
In the meantime, perhaps take the sign’s advice to heart: don’t panic.
