City of Cape Town’s law enforcement and Western Cape Police joined forces on Friday morning, launching a coordinated search for an avid hiker who went missing on Monday, 29 April.
Steenberg SAPS detectives are seeking assistance from the public in locating him.

According to police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg, Alistair Stanbull was last seen leaving his home in Steenberg when he told his wife that he would be going for a hike.
Stanbull, however, never returned home. His vehicle, a Renault Kwid, was found in the parking area of the Silvermine Reserve the following morning, 30 April.
‘At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a grey long-sleeve t-shirt and khaki hiking pants,’ said Twigg.

This morning, the Provincial Search and Rescue launched an extensive search of the area and requested assistance from the City.
‘The City deployed hundreds of staff, comprising of search teams, accompanied by members of SANParks, TMNP and WSAR, while we also allocated investigators from our SSIU and SSIMS,’ said City’s MMC for safety and security, JP Smith on Facebook.
He added that the coordinated search team included the City’s Fire & Rescue Services, which worked alongside the SAPS Dive Unit and K9 Unit.
‘Our drone teams worked along with our provincial EMS drone teams, where all efforts were properly coordinated and documented on-site from our Disaster Risk Management mobile Joint Operations Centre,’ said Smith.
‘By 2pm, teams had covered all hiking trails, the dam area and all surrounding terrain. So far, no sign has been found and the search continues.’
