On arrival at the scene, the City’s law enforcement marine officers found a 21-year-old female in the surfline.
A law enforcement marine senior inspector recovered the female from the surf onto the shore, where cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) efforts were commenced by medics.
After extensive efforts to resuscitate the female were exhausted, she was declared deceased.
The body was taken into the care of government forensic pathology services, and SAPS has opened an inquest docket.
It is believed that the female was caught in rip currents while swimming with a friend.
