Swartland municipality spokesperson Mart-Marie Haasbroek confirmed to News24 that the death of a young person has resulted in ‘community tensions’.
Videos depicting torched houses, a riled-up community and injured people have been circulating on social media since last night after a 15-year-old was reportedly stabbed to death.
In a social media post, Patriotic Alliance leader Gayton McKenzie appealed to the South African Police Service (SAPS) to urgently send reinforcements to the area.
‘The community has risen up and houses are burning, people are shooting all over the place, it’s like a war zone. Condolences to the family of the young boy. We are trying our best to get maximum help and reinforcement to Malmesbury by putting pressure on authorities.’
