Some of our favourite snacks treat, and essentials (if you were part of the marmite die-hard community and can attest to this) sadly ventured onward into the abyss of memories in the last two years.
In 2020, chocolate lovers faced the news that comrade Chocolate Log would no longer be a treat for the shelves of the rainbow nation.
As if 2020 didn’t cause us enough distress, the loss of Chocolate Log that August was the cherry on top of the cake of reasons to turn up our noses of that year.
“While South Africans are complaining about the alcohol ban I am nursing a broken heart over the loss of ghost pops and chocolate log!” wrote @candicealvey at the time.
People were upset then, and admittedly some are still upset now. The reason for the discontinuation according to Nestlé was due to wanting to make space for innovation. They promised that there would be new treats to look out for, and lo and behold there are indeed.
There’s a new kid on the block of chocolates, and it is in essence the child of Chocolate Log, affectionately named ‘Choc-O-Log’.
Made by local manufacturer Kayley’s, the new treat appears to be the spitting taste of its ancestor, described as “delicious fluffy marshmallow, laid on a crunchy wafer smothered in rich milk chocolate”. Ring any bells?
On Sweet City’s website, the treat has already sold out.
If we can bring back remnants of Chocolate Log, then perhaps there’s hope for all our other fallen discontinued soldiers too.
Here’s looking at you, Marmite and Heinz tomato sauce.
