While there’s a time and a place for the traditional Cape Town attractions (we’re looking at you Table Mountain, the Waterfront and Clifton 4th) there’s also an art to the alternatively attractive. If you’re looking for something slightly lesser-known, but still adventurously juicy with a sprinkle of mystery for flavour, here are some treats you can look forward to- now that you know where to look.
1.The Labia Theatre

The Labia is an icon on Orange Street. The old school cinema is renowned for its charm, and has been a popular old sport for decades.
Added bonuses to the Labia’s charm are certainly the aesthetic, the film selections (which often have alternative films on play) and the choice of something a little stronger for the show (beverage wise).
2.Record-shopping

Cape Town is home to some of the grooviest record stores in the nation. If you’re looking for a shopping twist with a literal spin, check out these record stores in the Mother City.
3.Thrifting

It’s time to get nifty with the thrifty. If you’re tired of patrolling through the Waterfront and you’ve seen all that Cavandish Square has to offer, it might be your time to rewind through music. Even if you don’t have a record player, the vinyl thrill of tangible music is still an experience.
Some great picks are Blood Orange, Retrostash, Grandfunk Retrovintage and Dreamland Vintage.
4.’The Rock’ sunset spot

If Signal Hill is the popular kid, then the rock is like his alternative little sister. Mysterious, brooding, and a peaceful spot to think, The rock will have you contemplating in a new way.
5.Street art touring

There’s no place like Zeits MOCCA, but there’s also something to be said about art on the city’s landscapes. Street art tours are an absolute must for the artistically adventurous. If you’re not sure that your navigation skills will be able to hold strong, let Juma Art Tours show you around.
6.Waterfall hiking

Lion’s Head has its conventional pillar in the hiking world, but waterfall hikes also have their place. Tantilising views, forest surrounds, and the path less travelled- these waterfall hikes will have you cool, calm and collected.
Here are some waterfall hikes to try.
7.Beta Beach

Clifton 4th, we know and love you. However, Beta is one of the best beaches to go without the whole of South Africa hot on your trail. Secluded and populated by rocks, Beta will have you saying “that was a beta idea”.
