South Africa is an incredible country but we are faced with an education and unemployment crisis.
According to the World Bank, we live in the most unequal society in the world and it’s for this reason that initiatives like bursary programmes are crucial for uplifting families, creating education and employment opportunities for our fellow South Africans.

One bursary student is taking that in her stride and is making big plans for the future. Bukho Miti is a content creator studying a Higher Certificate in Digital Content Creation at the Red & Yellow Creative School of Business.
She finished her schooling in the Eastern Cape and saw an opportunity to live and study content, her passion, in Cape Town thanks to Red & Yellow’s bursary programme.
Getting a bursary was a huge financial relief for Bukho’s family and took pressure off of her mother. ‘As a first-born child, there is pressure to help relieve the financial burden for the family,’ says Bukho.
When she received the bursary, it allowed her to focus on her studies instead of worrying about getting a second job to support herself financially. Because of this opportunity, she can put all her effort into her schooling and produce the best results in her academics.
Once Bukho has completed her studies, she’s looking to start her own creative agency where she can teach and manage other content creators. For Bukho, empowering her community is a priority. ‘I want to show people that you can do this,’ she says.

‘You don’t need the fanciest equipment, you just need yourself and your dedication. Your dreams are more accessible than you think they are, and it would make me very happy to help someone get to where I am right now.’
Bukho believes that receiving a bursary is a lifeline to gaining much-needed knowledge and expertise through tertiary studies, leading people to better their lives and give back to their community.
‘By creating jobs for other people and creating opportunities for other people. Once you plant the seed for someone, they’ll go on to do the same because they’ll see the impact that it’s had in their life.’

Red & Yellow has a social promise that at least 10% of students won’t have to pay for their studies. In 2024, Red & Yellow nearly doubled that number with 19% of students receiving bursaries to fund their tertiary education.
The bursary programme, combined with a 94% employability rate, means that students who wouldn’t otherwise have access to a world-class private higher education experience are afforded the opportunity.
Students are able to go on to lead impactful careers that not only change their lives and set them up for future success but also have a tremendous impact on their families and the communities they live in.
