The South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a severe weather warning earlier this week for the City of Cape Town, Swartland, Stellenbosch, Drakenstein, and western Overberg municipalities in the Western Cape.

A cold front associated with a steep upper-air trough is making its way across the province SAWS warned of disruptive rain, localised flooding, and slippery roads.

Widespread snow is also expected from Sunday into Monday, although mostly limited to the mountains.

On Wednesday night, social media was abuzz with reports of a ‘mini tornado’ or landspout making its way through Lost City in Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain.

Videos and photos of the damage to structures and houses were shared widely.
